Questions people often ask before starting.
What is electrolysis?
Electrolysis is a method of permanent hair removal that treats individual follicles using a very fine sterile probe. A small electrical current is delivered to the follicle and each hair is treated individually.
Is electrolysis permanent?
Yes. The British Institute & Association of Electrolysis (BIAE) describes electrolysis as the only medically approved form of permanent hair removal and cites support from the British Medical Association (BMA) and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Because hairs grow through different cycles, permanent removal is achieved through a course of regular treatment rather than one appointment.
Who is electrolysis suitable for?
Electrolysis can be suitable across skin tones and hair colours, including clients treating facial hair, isolated hairs, hormone-related unwanted hair or remaining hairs after laser. Suitability is confirmed at consultation.
Can electrolysis treat blonde, red, grey or white hair?
Yes. Electrolysis does not rely on pigment in the hair, so it can be used on dark, blonde, red, grey and white hairs.
Can I have electrolysis after laser?
Often, yes. Electrolysis is commonly chosen for remaining hairs after a course of laser, particularly when only smaller or lighter hairs remain.
Does electrolysis hurt?
Electrolysis is not usually described as painless. Sensation varies by person and area and may feel like warmth, tingling or a brief sting. Your patch test gives you an opportunity to experience the sensation before beginning a course.
How many sessions will I need?
This varies according to the area, amount and density of hair, previous removal methods, hair-growth cycles and how regularly you attend. We can discuss a realistic starting plan at consultation.
What areas do you treat with electrolysis?
Current treatment areas include the monobrow / eyebrow area, upper lip, chin, sideburns, jaw, neck, underarms, arms, hands including fingers, and feet including toes.
What areas do you not treat?
Our current electrolysis menu does not include the chest or back, intimate / private areas, bikini line or legs. The treatment menu is deliberately focused on the areas listed above.
What other treatments do you offer?
We also offer face microneedling, hair / scalp microneedling, HydraFacial and selected advanced electrolysis / blemish treatments including skin tags, white milia, thread veins, blood spots, spider naevus / telangiectasia and selected sun or age spots following assessment.
How do consultations work?
Electrolysis consultations are booked online and the consultation plus patch test takes place in person. We review suitability, your goals, relevant treatment history and an appropriate starting schedule.
Is the consultation and patch test free?
Yes. Your initial electrolysis consultation and patch test are complimentary.
Are your premises and licences ready?
Yes. Premises registration, practitioner certifications and required licences are in place ahead of launch.
